Composite Fillings

Play Video

You may remember a time in the past when the only way we could fill cavities and stop decay was with metal fillings that often contained trace amounts of toxic mercury, and would tend to expand and contract with temperature changes, making them unstable.

Thankfully, today at Hedgecock Dental, we fill cavities and stop decay using a tooth colored composite material that is completely safe and non-toxic, and is more durable than metal for withstanding temperature changes and bite forces.

Tooth colored composite fillings blend in seamlessly with your natural teeth so no one will ever need to know you’ve had a filling.

Inlays & Onlays

Inlays and onlays are the smallest type of restorations we offer, after a simple filling. If you have an area of decay that is too large to fill with a traditional filling, but the damage is not extensive enough to require a full crown, we may recommend an inlay or onlay.

Inlays repair damage contained within the cusp (outer edges), where onlays are generally larger and extend beyond the cusp. Inlays and onlays are more conservative in nature than crowns, because they don’t require any removal of healthy tooth structure to place. Inlays and onlays can strengthen and reinforce your natural tooth so it will last as long as possible.

Crowns

A crown is a tooth shaped cap that fits over your natural tooth to repair damage and restore the tooth in form and function. If you have a tooth that is broken, chipped, or decayed that still has enough healthy tooth structure to support a restoration, we will likely recommend a crown.

In order to place a crown, the tooth must first be prepared to remove any damaged areas and make room for the restoration. If you are missing a tooth entirely and are a candidate for dental implants, we can place an entire fabricated tooth or full crown and anchor it to the implant – this is the best single tooth replacement option available.

Bridges

If you are missing a single tooth or multiple teeth, we may recommend a dental bridge to fill the gap and restore balance to your smile.
Bridges consist of one or more fabricated teeth, anchored to surrounding teeth with crowns on either side.

Unless the surrounding teeth are already damaged and would require a restoration anyway, a bridge does require removal of healthy tooth structure in order to secure the bridge with crowns. Bridges can also be anchored further with dental implants for added security and jawbone health.

Dentures

If you are missing most or all of your natural teeth, or living with ill-fitting dentures that rock and slip, we would love to help you regain your confidence in your smile with custom dentures that look, feel and function just like natural teeth.

If you are a candidate for dental implants, we highly recommend securing your dentures and your future with implant supported dentures. This is the only way to prevent jawbone deterioration and stimulate new bone growth.

Implant dentures help you maintain your facial structure, and allow you the freedom to enjoy your favorite foods and clean and maintain them just like your natural teeth! No more messy denture adhesives or dentures that slip out of place, implant dentures are a secure and permanent solution for patients seeking a better future for their smile.

Root Canals

While “the dreaded root canal” has earned a bad rap over the years, the truth is, root canals are one of the most common modern dental procedures and are often a fairly routine and painless treatment. It’s actually the pain of an infected tooth that is much worse than the root canal itself.

If you’re suffering from tooth pain, you may have an infected tooth and might require a root canal. In most cases, we will refer you to a trusted endodontist (root canal specialist) in Austin. You can rest assured all of our referral partners uphold our high standards for clinical excellence and compassionate care. Don’t worry; you’re in the best hands with our team at Hedgecock Dental.

Your Austin dentist will go in and remove the infection, sterilize and fill the chamber to prevent further infection, and seal the tooth with a crown. Voila! Now that wasn’t so bad, was it?

Full Mouth Reconstruction

If your mouth has been devastated by a traumatic injury or severe gum disease, and you’ve lost all hope in ever having a healthy, beautiful smile again, we would love to be the team to help you. We will sit down in a comprehensive consultation and discuss your treatment options, goals, budget and ideal timeline to create a personalized treatment plan to get your mouth back on track.

Your full mouth reconstruction may include (but is not limited to) restorations such as crowns or veneers, implants, periodontal treatment, and dentures.
